Welcome to the Friends of Ukraine Madison

So wonderful you found us. Nestled in the heart of Madison, Wisconsin, we are the first Ukrainian 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating and sharing the vibrant cultural traditions of Ukraine in Dane County, Wisconsin. Our mission is two-fold: to promote Ukrainian culture among Wisconsinites and to create a sense of belonging among Ukrainians.

Did you know that there is a new Ukrainian community in Wisconsin? Most of the Ukrainians are here on humanitarian parole who arrived after the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Others have made their home here since the 90’s and early 2000’s. Our organization includes board members from both groups. Friends of Ukraine, Madison exists to accomplish two goals: to support Ukrainians scattered by the war and to promote Ukrainian culture through educative and cultural events for Wisconsinites.

Our Activities and Programs

  • Cultural Festivals and Events

    Organize and host Ukrainian cultural festivals, art exhibitions, and performances in Madison to showcase the richness of Ukrainian culture and heritage.

  • Language and Cultural Classes

    Offer language classes and cultural workshops to the Madison community, providing an opportunity for individuals to learn about Ukrainian traditions, language, and history.

  • Community Outreach Programs

    Conduct outreach programs to connect with local Ukrainian communities, offering support through initiatives such as community-building events.

  • Humanitarian Aid Projects

    Collaborate with local partners to initiate humanitarian aid projects, supporting Ukrainian communities both in Madison and Ukraine through donations, relief efforts, and community development projects.

  • Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives

    Implement initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion within the organization and the broader Madison community, emphasizing the importance of cross-cultural understanding.

  • Collaborative Partnerships

    Forge partnerships with other cultural organizations, community groups, and educational institutions to create a network of support and collaboration, furthering the mission of friendship and solidarity among cultures.

  • Youth Engagement Programs

    Develop programs specifically tailored for youth, including cultural programs, mentorship opportunities, and events to engage and inspire the younger generation to appreciate and celebrate Ukrainian culture.

  • Media Campaigns for Cultural Representation

    Develop media campaigns to highlight the stories and achievements of the Ukrainian community, advocating for accurate and positive representation in the media to counter stereotypes and misconceptions.
